This unique experience introduced pupils to the world of radio broadcasting while developing communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. We delivered the sessions in two 2 hour interactive sessions where learners were able to explore technical and creative aspects of radio and develop and participate in their own radio features and structured debates. They took spoke about future-focused topics such as their dreams and aspirations, planning for life after school.

We covered in session one:

  • Introdcution to radio production : microphones, voice control, and how shows are broadcast online
  • Confidence on the mic
  • Identifing debate topics and possible open questions
  • Practice discussion techniques and selecting debate chairs.

We covered in session two:

  • Hands-on practice with microphones and debate hosting
  • Running live-style debates with prepared questions and multiple hosts
  • Technical involvement by operating aspects of the broadcast desk and editing show content.

The sessions were designed to :

  • build confidence in speaking and listening skills
  • provide an insight into media careers and technical roles
  • encourage teamwork, critical thinking, research and listening to others through debate
