Commitment to citizenship and the local community

In mid March Olivia Chapman received a pretigous award from The High Sheriff of Shropshire for commitment to citizenship and the local community.

We are absolutley over-the-moon for Olivia to have received this award that was orghansied by Shrewsbury Colleges Group on behalf of Jane Trowbrodge, the High Sheriff of Shropshire.

Oliva received the award at Shrewsbury Colleges Group with hundreds of other young people who have all done amazing work in their local communities across Shropshire.

We nomintaed Olivia because of her amazing work and dedication, not least her growth into a radio presenter listened to by hundreds of local people, that she began when she was 17 with no radio experience.

Founding Director, Wayne: “Olivia is one of the most adaptable volunteers I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and she consistently demonstrates her dedication to working with others.

Over the past seven months, many of our older and experienced volunteers at our studio have spoken to me about Olivia. They praised her communication skills and told me about how she has gained in confidence and brightened their day. One volunteer with SEN described how Olivia helped them to create their show clock and advised on questions for a guest interview. Another described how Olivia helped them as they were new and didn’t know what to do next. Many visitors, including the High Sheriff of Shropshire Jane Trowbridge, praised Olivia for organising and presenting a debate on Youth Awareness Day, and organising other young people before the debate live on air. Her presence brought calmness, and she is always happy to suggest ways to make our show content better.

Olivia is an excellent communicator and she has consistently developed her live presenter skills. She takes direction well from senior volunteers and is always ready to learn new things. When we worked together, she told me that her goal was always to improve her skills and to help others as she progresses.”
