INTune Radio officially launched its School Radio Club with a special event at its Shrewsbury studio on 1 August 2025, attended by High Sheriff of Shropshire Jane Trowbridge JP, local sponsors, volunteers and supporters. The celebration marked the next phase of a journey that began with a crowdfunding campaign, a youth rap battle at Loopfest 2025 and growing support across the county. The event also looked ahead to the Youth Awareness Day takeover on 16 October, when members of the School Radio Club will lead a day of youth-led broadcasting on INTune Radio.

Thanks to funding from Shropshire Music Service, 13 schools across the county – a mix of primary, secondary and specialist settings from large towns to rural areas – will now receive equipment to support the programme. The project is also being championed by Shropshire Council’s Children’s Services, who have welcomed its creative approach to youth participation and digital learning.
The School Radio Club gives children and young people a chance to broadcast news, host interviews, and create their own features – developing communication skills, teamwork, confidence and creativity along the way. Headteachers have welcomed the initiative as a valuable contribution to both the curriculum and wider school life.

Wayne Flynn, founder of INTune Radio, said: “This started with the community backing us through crowdfunding – and it’s now being driven forward by schools, councils and businesses working together. The response from Heads of Schools has been amazing. We’re building something that can connect every corner of Shropshire through the voices of its young people.”
Among those attending the launch event were Ellie Cole, branch manager of Howden Insurance Shrewsbury, a project partner; Stuart Parker, owner of Electronic Partners in Telford; and members of Severn Business Network (SBN), an independent business group in Shrewsbury whose members continue to support the project.

Singer-songwriter Isobel Parker performed live at the launch, which also featured home-baked cakes and a celebratory ribbon cutting in the studio.
The High Sheriff, Jane Trowbridge JP, said: “Great party. Fun afternoon. Amazing Isobel. Delicious cake. Such a happy time. What more can I say but thank you!”

INTune Radio is calling on schools of all types across Shropshire to get in touch and be part of the School Radio Club as it rolls out this Autumn.
The team also welcomes interest from businesses wishing to support the project. Sponsorship starts from just £250 per school per academic year and includes –
⦁ introduction to school decision-makers
⦁ On-air audio branding and a PR shoot with the school
⦁ Logo placement on brochures and the INTune Radio website
⦁ Social media and radio promotion as part of the School Radio Club show
